Residents of Fumso in the Adansi Asokwa District in the Ashanti Region are disappointed in the Akufo-Addo’s government for failing to continue work on a community day school in the district.
The school forms part of the 200 community day schools which were being construed under the erstwhile Mahama administration.
The roofed E-Block however been abandoned by the contractor whom we gather has run out of funds to complete the project.
The residents are worried they cannot bear the cost of enrolling their wards in distant Senior High Schools and want a speedy release of funds to complete the Community Day School.
The community members are complaining this has stalled the education of several children who have completed Junior High School in some thirty communities who were to benefit from this project.
They told Abusua News, “Though there is free SHS, the cost of the items on the prospectus and the provisions that come with boarding is making it difficult for us to send them to senior high schools’.
An old woman was worried the children in Fumso have resorted to idling about aimlessly when they complete Junior High School.
She beckoned, “please tell Nana Addo to complete this school for us because it is close to us and our children can just attend the school here without any extra cost to us.”
Assembly member of the Fumso Electoral Area, Austin Danso told Abusua News’ Osei Kwadwo that the community is direly in need of this school to address its stark educational challenges.
‘The closest school to us is Bodwesango Senior High School. Even though, Esokwa is a district capital, it has no school. You can only fall on the nearby districts like Fomena, Dompoase and New Adubease,’ he complained.
He lamented, “Our children who finished JHS here had good grades but couldn’t progress to the Senior High School because their parents could not afford sending them to far-away schools.”
