Ghanaian Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Madam Otiko Afisah Djaba has stated that actress and socialite Moesha Boduong does not represent the multitudes of hardworking Ghanaian women.
She said Moesha has the right to discuss her lifestyle on any platform but she does not speak for the hardworking Ghanaian women who have been putting 10-18 hours a day on the fields, markets and offices across the country.
Madam Otiko added that Moesha has damaged the Ghanaian womanhood.
Moesha who has heavily been criticised by Ghanaians in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour said Ghana’s economy is in its bad state and that young girls have to sleep with men for survival.
But the minister in a signed statement said, ‘We wish to disassociate Ghanaian women from the comments of Ms. Moesha. Ms Moesha has the right to discuss her lifestyle on any platform, but she does not represent the multitudes of hardworking Ghanaian women’.
She warned ‘ If any Ghanaian cannot lift high the flag of Ghana, the least he/she can do is not to soil the image nor smear the reputation of our motherland’.
Madam Otiko appealed to Ghana’s international friends and partners especially media organisations to contact established national agencies like the Gender ministry when they are producing programmes on gender and social issues in Ghana.
The actress on Friday apologised for her utterances.
