The 28-year-old man, Kelvin Quist Agbenyega, who allegedly butchered his father to death at Okorase near Koforidua in the Eastern on Wednesday begged for forgiveness when he was put before court.
The accused who was arraigned before the Koforidua High Court “B” immediately turned to the wall in the courtroom and remorsefully asked God to forgive him adding that he will never do that again.
The accused Monday took a cutlass used by his father to unplug coconut fruits in the house to hack the father several times killing him instantly.
The body of the deceased, Emmanuel Degraft Quist Agbenyega, a retired accountant has been deposited at the morgue of the Regional Hospital-Koforidua.
The family of the 28-year-old suspect told the Police that the suspect has had a long battle with schizophrenia.
A sister of the suspect Theodora Quist said her brother had constant brushes with their father for paying more attention to the welfare of his siblings.
“I got home to see my father murdered in cold blood by my brother Kevin. I lost consciousness when I went to see my father, I just couldn’t believe it. My relatives who visited Kevin at the Police Station with food reported that he couldn’t eat his meal, he is said to have regretted his actions but I don’t want to see him again. My father has been my backbone and Kevin has taken his life from him, I can’t forgive him,” she recounted in tears.
