The matron of the Aduman Senior High School who doubles as the school’s Principal Domestic Bursar and Adontenhemaa of Nkoransah Abusua Mrs Helen Baafi has been transferred for sharing her opinion in the media about the agitations to get the school’s headmaster removed from office.
In January this year, 85 out of the 99 teaching and non teaching staff submitted a number of petitions to the Education Ministry and the Ghana Education Service (GES) demanding that the headmaster Francis Yao Agorsor be shown the exit.
They accused Mr Agorsor of disrespecting, physically and verbally abusing teachers at will and extending same to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) members.
Mrs Baafi popularly referred to by teachers and students of Aduman as ‘Nana Hemaa’ told the media about incidents where the headmaster had slapped and insulted staff and called for the headmaster to adopt good human relations with his subordinates.
“I am a matron and I have worked with so many head masters, assistants and students for over thirty years. I give respect even to the students and you can ask any student, they call me Nana Hemaa. I believe in good human relations and when something is wrong, it is wrong. But the headmaster can just insult our kitchen staff and slap anyhow and this is wrong,” she said.
A three-member committee was set up to investigate the claims after the teachers staged a sit-down strike.
But little did she know her candid opinions solicited by the media were going to land her a transfer to Mankranso Senior High School (SHS).
The teachers some of whom are unwilling to suffer the same fate who spoke to Ultimatefmonline.com on condition of anonymity disclosed that thirty four other teachers have been threatened to be transferred if the leadership of the staff do not rescind their resolve not to work with the school’s headmaster.
They are more angered the GES has refused to furnish the teachers with the detailed report of the investigative committee’s report.
The teachers believe the embattled headmaster Francis Yao Agorsor who has a record of refractory behaviour from schools he has headed, has friends within the top hierarchy of the GES protecting his interest no matter the magnitude of agitations against his style of leadership.
