The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Portuphy is heading to court to support the Deputy General Secretary of the party Koku Anyidoho as the court begins his case today (Wednesday).
Mr Anyidoho was yesterday (Tuesday) charged with treason after he said in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM that there will be a civilian coup to remove the Akufo-Addo’s government.
‘There will be a civilian coup d’etat. There will be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday,’ Mr Anyidoho said.
Mr Portuphy had to excuse the demonstrating groups which have gathered the Obra Spot, Accra.
‘So far so good, I think that the consciousness of our people in this country is the one we want to touch upon, because I see this as part of our colonial and neo-colonial struggle. Even for independence, the predecessors of NPP were not part of it, but for the fortitude of Kwame Nkrumah, this country will not be where we are today…We must do the ‘aluta’ to let President Akufo-Addo and his people know that this country cannot be sold.
‘My Deputy General Secretary’s case is a sad one, I hear they are taking him to court now, so I’m going to leave here now and go to the court, yes me as the Chairman, we cannot desert this demonstration and we cannot be divided, let the rest be here and I will go with a few people,’ he said at the demonstration grounds.
