The Minister of Education Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has threatened to shoot any teacher who attempts to sexually abuse his daughter.
He attributed the lack of effective supervision on the part of Heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) to the rise in sexual abuse in the country.
According to the minister, the infamous Ejisuman sex scandal which gained prominence in the media could have been controlled provided the regional directorate of GES and the headmaster of the school had taken serious interest in the matter.
Addressing selected heads of SHSs in Kumasi, the Manhyia South legislature questioned the headmasters on how they would feel if the girls being subjected to sexual abuses by teachers are their daughters, Ultimate News’ Isaac Bediako reported.
He noted he would have shot the teacher if the victim was his daughter, entreating heads of SHSs to protect vulnerable girls in their schools.
‘We are all heads, let’s take it that if these young girls were our daughters, how would we feel?.. I’m not sure if I know some people here who will take guns, but if it happens to my daughter, I will take a gun, somebody’s daughter is equally your daughter,’ he fumed.
