The Netherlands ambassador to Ghana His Excellency Ron Strikker on Tuesday visited and toured facilities of the No Business As Usual (NBU) Hub in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The budding hub has set itself out to develop the capacity of the youth of the municipality through entrepreneurship training, outreaches, and job finding opportunities
It is also on a course to develop the local economy of Asokore Mampong through joint stakeholder collaborations between the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly (AMMA) and key stakeholders in areas of revenue mobilization, budget tracking and accountability.”
The NBU hub has already begun making some significant impact in Asokore Mampong with funding from European Union and the SOS Village Netherlands with support from the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.
It has already begun training young graduates from universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions with applications opened for a fresh intake of graduates from Senior High, Vocational and Technical institutions.
The visit of the Netherlands Embassy was to learn more about the programs and outreaches being run by the institution and how it is impacting the immediate community it is targeting.
Relaying the achievements of the NBU Hub, Project Coordinator, Esther Amponsah Frimpong outlined that the project’s Core Life skills and Job Creation sessions has helped beneficiaries identify their goals and purposes and what they want to do with their lives after training.
She added that her outfit has begun looking for partnerships with corporate institutions and civil society organisations to get them job placements and internships. Apart from that, we are partnering with a credit union in the Asokore Mampong as well as the rural banks to help them with start up capitals for them to start their own businesses.”
Addressing the ambassador, Mrs. Amponsah Frimpong gave assurances of the project’s commitment to remain accountable and forward looking to replicate the hubs across the country.
She noted, “We work with SOS Netherlands and we are very sure that our collaboration with the Netherlands embassy comes in handy to support us to sustain the project. We have our targets and our own internal monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure that this project becomes a success and is sent across the country.”
The Netherlands Ambassador H.E Ron Strikker and his wife together with staff from the embassy had the opportunity to interact with some of the beneficiaries and trainers to understand the curricular used for the programme.
He told Ultimate News he was impressed with the level of commitment shown by the staff and administrators working tirelessly with the HUB to put donor funds to good use for the ultimate benefit OF Ghanaians.
H.E. Ron Strikker told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “I have talked to a number of facilitators this morning helping out with these projects. Even though they are entrepreneurs doing their own businesses with others having NGOs and other commitments. They do this on top of everything they do because they care for their own future and also the future of Ghana and that I find very inspiring,”.
“I think it is a step in the right direction because entrepreneurship means being responsible for your own future, to make your own living and try to be as little dependent as you can be. I think that is very courageous,” he commended.
