All 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the Asuogyaman Constituency of the Eastern Region will be served one hot meal daily throughout the examination period.
A total of 1765 candidates are expected to write this year’s exams in the District.
It is reported that many candidates often write the exams with empty stomachs due to inability of parents to provide monies for their children most of whom write the exams outside their communities where the examination centers are located obstructing focus of candidates.
Performances of BECE candidates in the Asuoguaman District over the years have not be encouraging.
For instance, in 2015/2016 academic year, out of the 1,583 candidates who sat for the exams, 863 passed mathematics while 123 passed English.
Also, 994 out of the total candidates number passed Science.
Therefore, the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, as part of several initiatives to improve performance of BECE candidates in the District, has announced to provide free lunch for all 1765 BECE candidates this year during the exams aside the provision of supportive educational materials such as mathematical sets donated to the candidates annually.
“We want the BECE candidates to prepare very well so we are going to organize one Mock Exams dubbed MP’s Mock Exams for all our BECE candidates. I want the BECE this year to have best record in Asuogyaman. Additionally, I have also committed that every BECE candidate is provided with one hot meal each of the five days that they will be writing their exams,” he said.
The MP said this when commissioning a 4 unit KG classroom block with office, storeroom and a toilet facility for the EP KG school at South Senchi in the Asuogyaman District.
Ultimate News’ Kojo Ansah reported that the project was jointly funded by the MP for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko and Pencils of Promise, a Non Governmental International Organization.
The project is expected to increase enrollment at the early childhood education.
