In its efforts to stop accidents in the petroleum industry, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) will soon embark on a nationwide safety campaign.
The National Petroleum Safety Campaign 2017 is a new project that will take place in August 2017, under the theme ‘People’s Safety First’.
Briefing Journalists in Kumasi, the NPA Chief Inspector Mrs Esther Anku indicated the need to engage relevant stakeholders such as depots, refinery, LPG refilling plants, attendants, drivers and the public in the fight against fuel accidents.
‘National Petroleum Authority is instituting “Safety Day” which is to observe once a year as part of raising safety consciousness in the operations of the Petroleum Authority and create awareness on the need to protect our environment, lives and properties, therefore the engagement of the media to help embark on this project,’ she said.
Speaking to Ultimate News, Mrs Anku also highlighted on the citing of filling stations close to towns, hospitals, schools and how people patronize fuel stations without paying attention to their safety.
The overview of the campaign is to stop accidents in the petroleum industries and domestics accidents as well.
She also added that the campaign would be done through the organization of floats along some major streets in the regions.
After the launch, the NPA will organize safety workshops, public sensitization programmes to help educate the general public and stakeholders in their operations.
The NPA in April, 2017 met tanker drivers and dealers in Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi to educate them more on the need to stay safe in their operations.
The NPA also urged the media to help them in creating more awareness to the general public and stakeholders.
