The Managing Director of State Housing Company (SHC), Kwabena Appiah has described as alarming the huge housing deficit the country is faced now.
He attributed this deficit to rural– urban drift which tends to put pressure on urban houses.
Majority of Ghanaians are gradually relocating to cities such as Kumasi, Accra, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast and other places for greener pastures with majority of them finding it difficult to get roof over their heads.
He observed that most of these migrants sleep in the open air risking their lives.
Speaking with Host of Ultimate Breakfast Show Lantam Papanko, he said the company is willing to build houses to support government’s housing projects if given the nod, to relieve the country of the pressure it suffers from housing deficit.
“Affordability of houses should be index to the house levels and also the cost of house ownership is relative depending on the location and design a client choose,’ he said.
He applauded the minister of works and housing Hon. Atta Akyea for being instrumental in the private business.
State Housing Company formally called State Housing Corporation has become a limited liability company since 1995.
