The Ashanti region office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned its jubilant supporters against “utterances and antisocial acts that will undermine the peace and fundamental human rights of other people who are not members of the party”.
The stronghold of the party is gone ecstatic in wild celebrations even ahead of the chair of the Electoral Commission (EC) of the republic Charlotte Osei officially declares its presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo president of Ghana.
Parallel polls conducted by media houses and the various political parties put Nana Akufo Addo in a clear lead ahead of President John Dramani Mahama, his major contender and flagbearer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The President John Dramani Mahama has already congratulated the opposition candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has already swept an overwhelming majority of seats in Parliament.
Every turn especially in the regional capital Kumasi depicts people clad in red-white-blue with vuvuzelas blurring amidst dancing ironically to the campaign song of the John Dramani Mahama campaign.
But speaking to Ultimate News’ Ivan Korshie Heathcote– Fumador, the regional organiser of the NPP, Stephen Amoah popularly called ‘Sticker’ cautioned the supporters to be measured and restrained in their elation to avoid altercations and infuriation from the governing NDC which appears to be going down as losers in the presidential race.
He warned, “The laws of the country still work and the laws will deal with everyone. Don’t say because you are an NPP supporter you will not be arrested if you do something against an NDC supporter. And if you are arrested, don’t call any party executive because we will not be there to save you.”
“Before, during and after the elections, we have been and we will always be one people whether NDC, NPP, CPP or PNC. Now that we have finished with the competition, we should be thinking about how we can work together as a people to move this country forward,” he added.
