It appears cool heads have not still prevailed within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asante Akim North Constituency of the Ashanti Region after its parliamentary primaries last year.
The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Kwadwo Baah Agyeman and the candidate Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi it has been established, may not campaign for the party on the same platform further creating sharp divisions within the party.
Mr Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, is accusing the candidate who beat him at the primary of attempting to denigrate him and has since sidelined him from major campaign activities in the constituency to the extent he also incited his supporters against him.
“I was returning from some rounds in the constituency when one of his supporters pelted stones at vehicle and broke my windscreen. He is sidelining me as an incumbent MP because he feels I may use the opportunity to win back the seat at the next primary”, he told Kwame Adinkra on Abusua Nkomo.
According to him, the conduct of the candidate has caused a decrease in the electoral fortunes of the party in the area and all attempts to bridge the differences between them have fallen on deaf ears.
“The candidate is bent on denting my image and sees me as a threat to his bid even though I am working to ensure the party wins. I am not disturbed at all and will contribute in my own small way to ensure that the party wins”, he added.
But Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi said the Asante Akim Lawmaker is still embittered over his defeat at the primary and has refused to allow for reconciliation despite efforts he personally undertook.
He accused him of taking back a Mahindra vehicle he bought to support the party in its campaigns wondering if this was not a deliberate attempt stifle the party’s chances.
“I have done everything possible for us to work together after the primary but he is unwilling. I will therefore want him to shut up and let us work”, he said.
