A nineteen (19) year-old school dropout has been convicted by a Winneba District Magistrate Court for stealing two nanny goats and a Samsung mobile phone all valued at GH¢700.00.
The accused Kwame Nyarko, was jailed on his own plea of guilty by the court presided over Mr. Isaac Oheneba Kufuor.
Police Inspector Peter Agbelie who prosecuted the case, stated that the complainant is Samuel Larbi, a lotto agent in Winneba, while the owners of the exhibits were Aunty Aba and Georgina Quartey both resident at Winneba.
Giving further account on how the incident unfolded, he said on October 7, 2016, at about 02.30 hours the complainant was returning home after he had gone to watch television at 7 UP Spot around the Old Market Square and on reaching the house of Aunty Aba, he spotted the accused coming out of Aunty Aba’s goat pen with a sack hanged on his shoulders.
Suspecting the accused was up to some diabolic intentions, he confronted him but he suddenly dropped the and sack and took to his heels but was pursued and arrested.
A search conducted on the sack he had earlier abandoned, revealed two dead goats which he is believed to have killed in order to avoid being caught.
Madam Georgina Quartey who was attracted by the noise after his arrest, came out of her room and immediately identified the mobile phone and SIM card as hers.
The accused was later handed over to the police and in his caution statement admitted the offense.
He was accordingly charged for the offence and convicted on his own plea.
