The Deputy General Secretary of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has charged the security agencies in the country to desist from playing to the gallery.
He further challenged the security agencies to execute their duties in a professional manner.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) invited the embattled presidential nominees of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom and the All People’s Party (APC) Dr Hassan Ayariga to answer questions on their campaign funding.
But speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, he said the security agencies are creating unnecessary tension by inviting the two presidential nominees.
He believes the invitation could have been done on the quite, asking if individuals or groups lodged complaints, and added that Dr Ayariga could be bluffing with his source of funding.
‘Security agencies should be seen acting professionally and stop playing to the gallery. I weep for Ghana, I weep for Africa and blacks, Africa we have a long way to go,‘ he said.
Commenting on the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) comments on social media ban during December polls, Nana Obiri Boahen retorted ‘don’t mind him, he doesn’t know what he is talking about, it won’t work, when you underrate the potency of a determined group of people, the end result is disastrous’.
He observed that African leaders, intellectuals, politicians only learn history but do not learn from lessons of history.
‘Does he know how the French, Russian revolution and Ghana’s June 4 erupted?, it was just a mere arrest and detention of Jerry John Rawlings, does he know, he asked?
He stated that some people are determined at the peril of their lives to save this country, saying majority of the kids are deep rooted in IT and can do anything electronically related.
The NPP Deputy Scribe suggested to the IGP to restore the citizenry’s confidence in the police, saying the latter’s credibility is at stake.
‘Go to Cape Verde and South Africa, the police behave like professionals, unlike Ghana. People were injured during the voter registration exercise, has any of the culprits been arrested and arraigned before court.? One of the suspects involved in the act in Brong Ahafo is the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Collins Dauda’s brother. If the IGP is man enough, he should arrest him, people have said worst things in the country and have not been invited for questioning, if you come out with a decision and its in the supreme interest of the country, people will support you,’ he emphasised.
According to him, a ‘professional’ policeman will not make public when civilians are invited for questioning.
