The Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu has brought to an end the perennial water crises at Dungu a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis in the Northern region.
The area is noted for seasonal water crises especially during the dry season compelling residents to drink from various unsafe sources especially when the only hand dug-out well serving Dungu, Nyohini, Yapala and other surrounding communities dries up.
Haruna Iddrisu who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, promised during one of his community visits to fix the situation in order to ease the discomfort of residents and students in these areas.
As a result, the Minister on Friday donated a truckload of PVC Pipes to the Dungu community to enable the Ghana Water Company Limited pump treated water from its main distribution network to the affected community.
Opinion leaders from the community were full of praise for the minister and assured him of their unflinching support, stating that he has always been swift in responding to their needs anytime he is called upon.
The Dungu community houses the University for Development Studies (UDS) Central Administration and the University’s Medical School.
Hitherto the latest intervention, residents depended either on a either a hand-dug well or a local dam as alternative sources of water.
