A pathologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Dr Osei Sampane has denied divulging details of the autopsy report of Kumasi-based journalist Confidence Kwadwo Baah.
It has been reported in sections of the media the broadcast journalist with Kessben TV/FM died of asphyxia (suffocation) caused by food particles, after the post-mortem examination of his body.
Asphyxia experts revealed is the condition where the body either does not get enough oxygen to continue normal function or has too much carbon dioxide to function properly without adequate oxygen, nerve cells in the brain.
But reacting to media publications about the report, Dr Sampane said his professional ethics frowns on him disclosing details of postmortem reports to third parties.
“Everything I did on the corpse was confidential between myself and the deceased person, it is between myself and the Attorney General, and it is between myself and the family of the deceased.”
“As we speak, I have not released any autopsy report, I am not allowed per my training as a pathologist to release such information to the public, not even to my wife. I do not discuss issues that happen at the hospital even with my wife. I have sworn an oath of secrecy just as every trained medical practitioner has.”He said on an Accra-based Fm station.
He disclosed that it is only on a court order he can release the details of the report to the public.
