Donald Trump Jr. struck back on Twitter against reports of his meeting with a Russian lawyer.
Donald Trump Jr. has struck back against reports of his meeting with a Russian lawyer, writing on Twitter on Tuesday that the news media and Democrats were full of "desperation."
The New York Times reported over the weekend that Trump, President Donald Trump's eldest son, had met with a Russian lawyer linked with the Kremlin to obtain negative information on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.
It is unclear whether any information was exchanged, but the reports have raised new questions in the ongoing investigation on whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential race.
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted in response that the media and Democrats were "extremely invested" and accused the two groups of "desperation."
"Media & Dems are extremely invested in the Russia story," Trump tweeted. "If this nonsense meeting is all they have after a yr, I understand the desperation!"
Amid growing fallout over the meeting, the younger Trump's office issued a statement saying that "no details or supporting information" was exchanged regarding Clinton.
Over the past few days, Donald Trump Jr. has also frequently used Twitter to tweet and retweet statements saying that outrage over the meeting was unfounded.
