Ghana Chef Elijah Amoo Addo's Waakye for the Queen could be on of these.
Ghanaian Chef, Elijah Amoo Addo along with two others have been awarded by Queen Elizabeth for their contributions in their respective communities.
Amo, set up a charity called Food for All after he saw a homeless man collecting scraps and the result has been an impactful group who are making sure thousands of disadvantaged people get a meal. The work of that group is what brought him to the attention of the Queen who met him during the Young Leaders Awards.
During the ceremony which saw Elijah Amoo Addo, Winnifred Selby and Efua Asibon receive their awards at the Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth asked Chef Elijah to cook for her.
And of course, he said yes!
Elijah started planning the meal to cook for the Queen the moment he accepted the offer saying in an interview:
“The most fascinating of it all is having to meet the Queen and for the Queen to ask me if I’ll love to cook for her which obviously I said yes. I’m going to cook one of our favorite dishes in Ghana, Waakye.”
Waakye is a popular Ghanaian meal which is basically rice and beans cooked with some herbs to give a brown colouring. Waakye is usually eaten with hot chilli sauce locally known as "shito" and complimented with, spaghetti and fried fish.
