Ghana’s 0-1 defeat to Mali in the final of the 2017 Africa U-17 Nations Cup will be the fourth time they have missed out on the final at the juvenile level
The Black Starlets have lost four finals at the U-17 level in both the nations Cup and the FIFA World Cup combined.
Ghana’s first defeat was against Nigeria in the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup staged in Japan and they lost the 1997 championship hosted by Egypt against Brazil-they lost 2-1 in both finals.
The Black Starlets’ first defeat in the final of the Africa U-17 Nations Cup was against hosts Gambia in the 2005 championship. An 87 minute controversial goal broke the hearts of Ghanaians in that memorable final.

And the second-time Ghana lost in the Africa U-17 Nations Cup just happened on Sunday evening against the defending champions Mali who have now calved a niche for themselves as a giant at the U-17 level.
