Nestle Ghana limited has held a public forum at Jumapo in the New Juaben Municipality to educate mothers and caregivers on the importance of nutrition especially breakfast to the growth and development of children.
The programme dubbed ‘Nido Nutrition Day’ was organized in collaboration with the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) under the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Mr Edwin Amoako, the Category Manager for Dairy of Nestle, in an interview with GNA, said Nestle was committed to improving the quality of lives of children in communities connected to their business activities.
He said Nestle has made a global commitment to help reduce the risk of under-nutrition through micronutrient fortification in its products adding that Nestlé also believed that good nutrition starting with a breakfast was very critical to the development of children hence the community programme to educate parents.
Mr Emmanuel Larbi, a retired educationist, said from experience children who were fed breakfast before coming to school were always alert and active in class activities and urged parents to make it a habit for their children to eat breakfast before sending them to school.
As part of the Nido Nutrition Day, Madam Faustina Sarpong, a trader at Jumapo, won a nutrition quiz and received a scholarship of GHC 500 for her daughter, Beatrice Sekretu, a primary three pupil of the Jumapo Presbyterian Basic School.
Some of the participants, who shared their views with GNA, said they had learnt a lot about the need to pay attention to their children’s food especially the breakfast and thanked Nestle for the education.
