At least 17 people died and 119 others were injuried in road accidents during the Easter holiday in Zambia, the police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata-Katongo said the country recorded 202 road traffic accidents during the long holiday, compared to 210 accidents and 15 deaths during the same period of last year.
She said in a statement that among those injured, 42 had serious injuries while 75 had minor injuries.
Lusaka, the country’s capital, recorded the highest number of accidents at 55, followed by the Copperbelt Province at 38 while central and southern Zambia recorded 26 accidents each, she added.
She further said eastern Zambia recorded 24 accidents while Luapula, Northwestern, Western and Muchinga provinces recorded eight, nine, seven and three accidents respectively. Enditem
