Human Rights Lawyer, Francis-Xavier Sosu, was announced winner in the Law category of the 40-Under-40 awards over the weekend.
The popular lawyer was among other inspirational young Ghanaians who were recognised.
Receiving the award, Mr. Sosu said he is “more inspired to continue to stand for justice, speak for justice and fight for justice."
Sosu missed out on the awards in 2017 despite him being the only nominee in the same category, following his suspension from legal practice by the General Legal Council (GLC).
Having successfully challenged the decision of the GLC, the Awarding Board has this year decided to honor the young vibrant lawyer.
Lawyer Sosu is a renowned Human Rights and Public Interest Lawyer, Social Protection and Child Rights Activist in Ghana. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2010 and has led in serious Human Rights cases and advocacy in Ghana in his over years of active practice.
He worked on the case of Francis Agyare, who was on remand for 14 years without trial. Lawyer Sosu got him compensation from the Human Rights High court.
Lawyer Sosu represented many victims of crime including the victim in Dr. Ali Gabas' case.
He also represented Charles Antwi, the mentally deranged man who claimed he wanted to kill President John Mahama so he can become President. Lawyer Sosu fought to quash the 10-year jail term sentence imposed on him and got him medication through the support and partnership of the Mental Health Authority.
Eric Asante was jailed 15 years in hard labour for defilement. Lawyer Sosu appealed at the Supreme Court to have him acquitted and discharged at a time when he had already served all the jail term.
Lawyer Sosu also represented a female employee at Mawako Restaurant who was assaulted by her manager and fought for justice for her as well as many others.
He keeps doing exploits through his global human rights outreach and last year, delivered a very inspirational speech at the United Nations during the Human Rights Summit Organised by the Youth For Human Rights International.
He holds a BA (Hons), Sociology, LLB (Hons). BL, and an LLM (Oil and Gas Law) and currently working on MPhil (Human Rights, Conflict and Peace Studies).
He founded F-X Law & Associates (Human Rights Law Firm in Accra) and is also the Founder and President of Treasure of Life Foundation (Christian Missions and Social Protection Foundation) - in Ghana, Kenya and the USA.
He is the Executive President of a global human rights outreach organization called Youth for Human Rights Africa (YoHRA) Ghana and USA.
Francis, who grew up as a destitute street child, was adopted by the Village of Hope. He has since become an Ambassador of Hope to many street children and destitute persons in general.
Lawyer Sosu has the following books to his credit: HOMELESS, ( A Ghana Education Service (GES) and Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) approved supplementary book for public schools, Love Lifted Me from the street, Understanding the Storms of Life and Overcoming the Storms Of Life.
