Former District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, James Gunu, has advocated the devolution of more power to the grassroots within the rank of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He said this is the sure way to ensure the party is able to work actively towards victory in the 2020 elections.
Speaking after he filed his nominations to contest as Volta Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Gunu assured he will prioritise the grassroots in the management of the party.
According to him, the views of ordinary party people will carry a heavier weight in the affairs of the party in the region under his watch.
Mr Gunu said he will work to ensure the grassroots of the party enjoy the fruits of their labour, adding he will create a vibrant, innovative grass root structure in the political administration of the Volta Region towards the 2020 elections.
“I will give meaning to political administration in the Volta NDC,’ he said.
He said he is committed to using political power to create jobs and economic opportunities for the youth in the region.
He promised to use various strategies including the formation of business clubs and adoption of branches, zones and constituencies by the clubs to help make the party strong.
Mr Gunu said there will be decentralization of the NDC party’s Research Unit in the Volta Region all the way to the various constituencies.
The party has fixed September 1, 2018, to hold regional elections across the country to elect regional executives. Four people have filed their nominations to contest the Volta Regional secretary position including Mr Gunu.
The former Akatsi North DCE said he will pay close attention to suggestions, complaints and recommendations from the grassroots and the public for the necessary strategic actions towards 2020 and beyond.
He also promised to improve upon political communication and marketing strategies by developing pragmatic communications policy and strategy for the party in the region and constituencies.
Mr. Gunu said under his watch as Volta Regional Secretary, a welfare scheme for members will be established to encourage a lot more young people to work hard for the party.
He is convinced that is the sure way to help make the NDC strong and put it on the path to re-capturing political power again. “We will work together with all stakeholders in unity, to make Volta NDC proud again,” he said.
