Players of the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, have each been paid $5,000 as winning bonus for beating the Walias of Ethiopia in their 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCoN) qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium.
They thrashed their Ethiopian counterparts 5-0.
Deputy Sports Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, said the figure was the new winning bonus agreed after a roundtable discussion by the Ministry, Ghana Football Association (GFA), Management of the Black Stars and the playing body.
“We have explained to the players that the government can no longer pay exorbitant winning bonuses given the limited resources at our disposal”, he told the media in Kumasi.
He said what had been agreed, represented a 50 percent slash of what they used to receive.
Mr. Hadzide thanked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and all football fans for their massive support, which inspired the team to achieve the convincing victory.
He also praised the players and the technical team for the convincing victory.
More than GH¢200,000.00 was realized in gate proceeds by the National Sports Authority (NSA).
All 35,000 tickets printed for the match were sold.
