The Group Chief Executive of CDH Financial Holdings Limited says the time is due for Ghana to strategise and tap into the immense economic potentials of sports for the benefit of the economy.
Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee says sports is a tool and vital catalyst for economic and social growth for every nation, adding that countries that realised the potentials of sports early enough are now reaping its huge benefits.
He made these remarks when speaking at a brief presentation to the Sports Writers Association Ghana (SWAG) ahead of its prestigious annual Awards ceremony in Accra.
Two companies under the CDH Group – CDH Savings and Loans Limited and Phoenix Insurance Company Limited, presented a cheque for GHS30,000 as sponsorship package towards the Awards scheduled for May, 27 in Accra.
According to Mr. Adu-Sarkodee, sports has matured beyond providing pleasure and fun for people, and it is also a full-blown business in many parts of the world. He said Ghana must strategise and cash in on the benefits of sports.
“Elsewhere, sports is business and even a whole economy on its own. Sometimes the numbers there are even higher than the GDP of some countries in the world.
"When Ghana discovers the economic potential of sports and taps it, the nation will reap immense benefits more than we are doing now,” Mr. Adu-Sarkodee stated.
Mr. Adu-Sarkodee indicated that CDH considers its association with the SWAG Awards a way to demonstrate the company’s commitment to helping the nation to recognise the economic asset and opportunities in sports.
The tennis star turned GCEO added that CDH deems it appropriate to continue to partner the SWAG Awards because of the unique character it has exhibited over the years.
“The level of integrity and credibility that comes with SWAG Awards is the reason why we continue to support the event. The spirit of the event syncs with our corporate values and our DNA,” he mentioned.
…I am very certain we shall continue to support you in the coming years since it is also part of our contribution to the development and promotion of sports in Ghana.” he stated.
For his part, the President of SWAG and ace sports analyst, Kwabena Yeboah, thanked CDH for the support which, according to him will help the Association honor hardworking sportsmen and women.
He urged all sports persons to consider investing at CDH Financial Holdings Limited to secure their future, stressing that the current depressing financial state of most sports personalities should give them a reason to do so.
