Fire guts police armoury?

 Building suspected to be an armoury of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) Headquarters, in Accra, was yesterday gutted by fire leading to explosions.

No casualty was recorded.

When the Ghanaian Times reporter got to the scene at about 9:45am, personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were doing all they could to con­tain the fire.

Traders selling around the area and police personnel were seen running to safety, as explosions were heard and smell of tear gas filled the air.

Police personnel at the three-storey of the National Op­erations Department of the GPS evacuated the building, bringing work to a halt, and auxiliary staff were sighted mopping water from the corridor after the fire extin­guished.

The acting National operations officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Divisional Officer Grade One ((DO1) Joseph Kofi Forson, told the Ghanaian Times that the Service received information about the fire around 9:22am, and proceeded to the scene to extinguish it.

He said the GNFS arrived at the scene at 9:38am and brought the fire under control within thirty
