The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in Tema Region would on March 1 honour top performing tourist facilities for maintaining best standards in hospitality industry.
Fifty-six tourist facilities have been nominated to win awards in 22 competitive areas while three institutions would also be given honorary awards for supporting the growth of the sector.
The acting Tema Region Manager of GTA, Mr Charles Buabin, inaugurated a four-man jury set up to evaluate facilities selected for the awards.
Mr Buabin said that the awards would be to recognise best performers in the tourism sector for 2018, and provide the opportunity for others to learn from their success.
He said the annual event was aimed at positioning Ghana’s tourism industry to compete favourably in the West African sub region.
Mr Buabin expressed the hope that the jury would do an excellent job and ensure a transparent and credible event, so that winners could compete for sub-regional awards.
He urged owners of facilities nominated for the awards not to rest on their oars, but to step up their efforts to make the Tema Region a destination of choice for tourists.
This year’s event is under the theme: “Celebrating Our Heritage”, and
the criteria for selecting winners include serenity of location, excellent customer care, quality of service and fulfilment of all statutory obligations.
