The mangled vehicles
Seven people died and eight others injured on Monday when a Toyota Hiace carrying them collided head-on with a KIA truck at Akuapem-Amanokrom in the Eastern Region.
The deceased had been conveyed to the Tetteh Quashie Memorial Hospital for autopsy whilst the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Confirming the incident to the Ghanaian Times, the Eastern Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Chief Superintendent Prince Jude, said the driver of the KIA truck was in police custody assisting in investigations.
He said the accident occurred at a spot at Akuapem-Amanokrom at about 2:30p.m. when the driver of the KIA truck, who was coming from Akuapem-Mampong, had a break failure.
Chief Sup Jude said the driver lost control of his vehicle and veered off his lane and crashed into the Toyata Hiace, which was coming from the opposite direction.
He indicated that six of the passengers on board the Toyota Hiace died on the spot, whilst the other one died at the hospital, adding that
the police were conducting investigations into the incident.
