The Police Administration has assured Ghanaians and foreign investors of the police’s readiness to tackle any terror attack in the country.
The Director-General of Police Administration, Commissioner of Police (COP) Isaac Ken Yeboah, said the police were equipped with personnel and logistics to be able to handle terrorism.
He gave the assurance during an exercise at the ‘LION JUNGLE’ at Tesano, a suburb of Accra, at which personnel drawn from the security agencies and stakeholders from the hotel Industry were taken through stimulation exercise by the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Ghana Police Service.
The CTU carried out simulation rescue of VVIP convoy attacks, obstacle crossing and unarmed combatting, among other activities.
The event was attended by a visiting 22-member delegation from the Association of Auditors of National Defense (IHEDN) from France, who were on fact-finding mission, and to observe Ghana’s preparedness against terror attack.
The delegation was led by Mr Paul Freiermuth, a retired Controller General of Defense.
COP Yeboah said every police personnel should be equipped with such operational training, and urged personnel who had benefitted from similar exercises to share their experiences with others.
He commended the personnel for their preparedness to deal with any eventuality, and asked them to apply the experience acquired to ensure security and safety of the citizenry in the country.
The Director-General appealed for more support from development partners, to expand the facility to help personnel undergo more training.
Mr Freiermuth commended the CTU for the stimulation exercise, stating that the team was satisfied with the operations of the unit, adding that Ghana was one of the performing countries in crime prevention.
The commanding officer of the Police CTU, Superintendent of Police Wejong Ali Raymond Kwame Adofiem, said the unit was established since 2014 to train personnel to combat terrorism in the country.
He said since personnel of the Unit could not be everywhere, they train other security agencies on such combat, to assist during emergency cases.
The commanding officer said the CTU had personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department, Special Weapon and Tactics, and Operational Units.
