Reconstruction works on the 6.7 kilometre Dodowa townroads in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region is progressing steadily.
The Department of Feeder Roads project, which commenced last year, involves the construction of storm drains and bitumen surfacing.
The roads stretch from the Ghanatta Senior High School junction through World Vision, the Post Office junction to the Ghana Water Company offices area.
The project, which is expected to be completed by June this year, would give the area a facelift as well as prevent the perennial flooding caused by runoff from the hills.
This came to light when the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Shai Osudoku, Mr Daniel Akuffo, and officials of the assembly, inspected ongoing projects in the area, yesterday.
The site engineer of Kings POK Engineering Limited, contractor executing the project, Mr. Jacob Akornortey, said 50 per cent of the work had been done, and the drainage works would be completed by the end of this month, to pave way for the start of Bitumen surfacing.
He assured of undertaking an excellent job to give the people value for money.
Mr. Akuffo, who said he was satisfied with the pace of work, urged the contractor to double efforts to enable him complete the work on schedule.
According to him, the run-off from the hills has been a constant headache for the assembly, as such the completion of the road would ease suffering of the area.
Mr Akuffo indicated that major drains would also be contracted at the Dodowa market to prevent constant flooding of the area.
He stated that the assembly would soon reconstruct the market under Public Private Partnership agreement, and urged the traders to rally behind the assembly, to provide the area with modern trading centre with available facilities.
The DCE also inspected toilet facilities with washrooms under construction at Aperkon, Salem, Dodowa Zongo and Asutsuare.
