Sarri
OLE Gunnar Solskjaer will be named the full-time manager at Manchester United, but Chelsea’s manager Maurizio Sarri is facing the sack.
SunSport understands that the decision to regularise Solskjaer’s position has been made at board level, although the club may not announce it until the end of the season.
United are publicly sticking to the mantra that the search for Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor remains ongoing.
But the hunt is over with co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer now convinced they have the right man in Solskjaer.
Avram Glazer travelled from America to be at United’s 3-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
He spoke with Solskjaer after the game in the dressing-room, having already talked to the interim chief’s agent Jim Solbakken, who had sat with the directors as a guest of United.
The news will end speculation that Mauricio Pochettino could be tempted away from Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford next summer.
That plan has changed on the back of Solskjaer’s dramatic impact — winning 10 of his 11 games since taking over in mid-December and lifting United back into the Champions League spots.
They now sit fourth, albeit nine points behind Tottenham and 14 adrift of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri faces the sack after Manchester City subjected Chelsea to their heaviest Premier League defeat.
Champions City replaced Liverpool at the top of the table on goal difference with their emphatic win, which has pushed under-fire Sarri closer to the exit at Chelsea .
Chelsea dropped to sixth place with their biggest defeat for 28 years, with Sergio Aguero claiming his 11th Premier League hat-trick to go level with Alan Shearer on the all-time list.
Sarri is on the brink, with the humiliation at City coming on the back of a 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth and Chelsea having failed to score in four away games this year, conceding 13 in the process.
Asked if he felt he was at risk from the sack, Sarri said: “I don’t know. You’ll have to ask the club.
“I’m worried about my team, worried about the performance, but my job is always at risk, so I’m not too worried about that.” – SunSport
