Team ATU celebrating the feat
The Accra Technical University (ATU), emerged overall winners of this year’s Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA), Games which ended at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
They bagged 36 medals comprising 15 gold, 13 silver and eight bronze to win the ultimate trophy.
They were followed by Takoradi Technical University (TTU), with 33 medals comprising of 14 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze while Koforidua Technical University (KTU) settled for third position with 18 medals made up of five gold, six silver and seven bronze.
Other awards on the night were the Best Women Team which went to Takoradi while Accra settled for the Best Male Team.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah congratulated ATU for hosting very successful games to emerge as the ultimate winners.
He urged students to ensure they remain much disciplined during such games, saying, ‘sportsmen and women must be disciplined and exercise some great level of restraint, ‘he cautioned.
Vice Chancellor of ATU, Prof. Edmund Ameko also congratulated organisers for the exciting games which ended incident free.
He said everyone was a winner and urged other institutions to prepare for the next games which would be hosted by Tamale Technical University.
