The Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) of the Ghana Police Service, Mrs Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, on Saturday visited the parents of the girls kidnapped in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis and assured them of police’s efforts at rescuing the victims.
She further stated that the President had instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to prioritise the kidnapping investigations and also solicit British and American assistance to unravel the mysteries surrounding case which had rocked Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, since August 2018.
DCOP Addo-Danquah and her entourage held separate meetings with the families of the three kidnapped victims, Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, Priscilla Blessing Bentum and Ruth Love Quayson, at Diabene, near Takoradi, as part of working visit to the region and also to sympathise with them.
She said: “We are here to sympathise with you and assure you that the IGP is concerned about the matter. The police administration is working seriously to rescue the girls.”
In reaction, the parents expressed their gratitude to the police their efforts and urged them to do more to bring back their children.
They also appealed to the police administration to send a clinical psychologist to assist them overcome their trauma.
The CID Director-General was accompanied by the Western Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edmund Ohene Bosompem, the Regional Crime Officer, ACP James Amoako Acheamfour and his deputy, Supt. Alhaji Hussein Musah Awinaba, the Takoradi District Police Commander, Chief Supt. Peter Ofori Donkor, the Staff Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kweku Ayepah, and the Regional Public Relations Officer, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku.
It is recalled that the first victim, Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21, a third year student of University of Education, Winneba, living at Diabene, a suburb of Takoradi, was kidnapped on August 17, 2018 at Kansaworodo, and her parents paid a ransom of GH?4,500 to kidnappers.
Ruth Love Quayson, 18 and former student of Fijai Senior High and living at Diabene, was also kidnapped on December 4 at Butumagyebu junction in Takoardi and her parents paid a ransom of GH?1,3000 to her captors.
Parents of the third victim, Priscilla Mantebea, 15, a student of Sekondi College, had also paid GH?1,000 to the kidnappers after she was grabbed at the Nkroful junction on December 21, 2018.
A suspect believed to be an ex-convict from Nigeria, Samuel Udoetkuk Wills, is in police custody and being interrogated in connection with the kidnappings.
