The newly reconstituted Economic Policy and Coordinating Committee of the Ministry of Finance (EPCC) on Wednesday held its maiden meeting in Accra.
The committee reviewed recent developments in the economy, 2019 budget implementation strategies and the status of the IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Programme and the exit strategies for the fund programme, according to a release issued by the Public Relations Unit of the ministry, copied the Ghanaian Times.
The release said the committee also considered the need to constitute various sub-committees and working groups to focus on specific areas of the country’s economy.
According to the committee, various tasks have been assigned to technical teams to be executed and reported on at the next meeting of the committee.
The committee comprises very senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, Bank of Ghana, Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, Ghana Revenue Authority, and Ghana Statistical Service.
The EPCC is a high-level technical committee mandated to provide strategic policy direction for effective coordination and implementation of government’s economic programme and budget in the country.
The reconstitution of the EPCC was part of a broader government strategy to institute irreversible structures to ensure the consolidation of macro-economic stability of the country.
All the members of the EPCC had committed to forge closer collaboration and timely sharing of relevant information to guide effective decision making and policy advice.
Dr Elsie Addo-Awadzi, the Second Deputy Governor, Mr Michael Ayesu, the Coordinating Director, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, Director, Economic Strategy and Research Division, both from the Ministry of Finance, Mr Phillip Abradu-Otoo, the Director of Research Department, Bank Of Ghana and Mr Eugene Ofosuhene, the Controller and Accountant General, as well as directors and technical officers from the member institutions were all present at the meeting held.
The maiden meeting was co-Chaired by the Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen and the First Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari.
