Late Ahmed Hussein-Suale
The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has begun investigations into the murder in cold blood of an investigative journalist with the Tiger Eye Investigations Team, Ahmed Hussein-Suale at Madina, a suburb of Accra.
His BMW car with registration number AS 1928-Q and three empty shells have since been recovered from the crime scene by the police to aid in investigations.
The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge confirmed the murder to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
Ahmed Hussein Suale, 31, was shot three times in the chest and the neck by two gunmen on an unregistered motor bike when he was driving home, police said.
The motive behind the murder of the investigative journalist remains unclear, but police account said, the young man had been shot by two unknown gunmen on an unregistered motor bike at Madina Estates near Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Unconfirmed reports also said the late Hussein-Suale received a call that his child was unwell and he went out with his car, shortly after words a sound like “firecracker”, which turned out to be the gunshot was heard by his neighbours who after coming out saw that the deceased had been shot.
The late Suale had been involved in high profile investigative stories in Ghana, including the Number 12 exposure of corruption in football administration in the country.
DSP Tenge said a team of personnel were dispatched to the scene and they found the deceased Hussein-Suale in the BMW saloon car with number AS 1928-Q.
She said the body had since been sent to the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Director-General of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on her part said the Police was leaving no stone unturned to unravel the mystery behind the murder of the journalist and also ensure that perpetrators were brought to book.
DCOP Addo-Danquah called on the public to volunteer information to the Police to assist in investigations.
The deceased is one of the persons whose photographs were circulated by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong in a video to rebut “Number 12”, a documentary by the Tiger Eye team, which exposed corruption in football in Ghana.
The Ghanaian Times gathered that the police had spoken to the Assin Central lawmaker and also asked for a copy of the comments, he allegedly made on his Net 2 television station.
Following the murder of Ahmed, social media is awash with tributes with many sympathisers pointing accusing fingers at Mr Agyapong for his utterances, but the law maker has rejected such claims.
