• Bavin-lana Mahamudu Mahamudu
Hundreds of chiefs continue to swarm the Old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi to pay homage to Bolin-Lana on day-two of the performance of the late Ya-Na Mahammudu Abdulai.
The chiefs who kept flocking into the Palace every hour of the day used their horses to display the rich culture of Dagbon as they took their turn to perform certain traditional rituals there.
The funeral of Ya-Na Mahammudu Abdulai which started on Friday in line with the roadmap crafted by the three eminent chiefs, saw Bolin-Lana being installed as a regent to superintend over the performance of the funeral.
The whole palace was engulfed in smoke as the chief paying homage to the regent fired musketry in addition to drumming and dancing.
The youth who had not seen the performance of any Ya-Na’s funeral in their life time invaded the palace, the centre of the drumming and dancing by chiefs with their beautiful smocks and hats to match.
Some of the young chiefs from nearby communities at Yendi and other parts of Dagbon were seen dressed in “traditional bullet proof attire” emblazoned with talismen.
This, according to an elderly man, Afa Abukari Sani, who spoke with the Ghanaian Times, was a sign of respect for the late Ya-Na Mahammudu Abdulai, by the youth.
The Asantehene’s delegation was also at the Gbewaa palace yesterday to greet the Abudu family and pay respect to the late Ya-Na Mahammudu
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, who led the Asantehene’s delegation, was excited about the peaceful manner in which they had conducted themselves so far.
“I’m so pleased about the process here in Yendi so far, I would urge all, particularly the chiefs to continue with it,” he pleaded.
The minister was of the view that the rich culture and tradition that was being exhibited in Yendi during this period could help attract investors to the area.
Meanwhile, the Bolin-Lana has expressed his profound gratitude to all who took time off to witness his installation as the regent on Friday.
“I wish to extend a special thanks to all who came to observe my installation as the regent of Dagbon, God bless you all,” he said.
He again reiterated their pledge to follow strictly the roadmap of the eminent chiefs to ensure peace is restored in Dagbon.
