Dr Samuel Ato Duncan
A global peace ambassador has blamed the current spate of violence and intolerance across the world on poor leadership
Dr Samuel Ato Duncan, Executive President, Centre of Awareness Global Peace Mission, said leaders, who were expected to lead the way in promoting peace amongst the world’s populace had rather pursued policies that resulted in division and hate.
The situation, he said required a change in leadership approach to focus on serving the people and seeking their growth and development.
He was speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday on the Mission’s 2nd Public Lecture on global peace slated for December 19 this year and launch of the Centre of Awareness Global Peace Mission at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
It would be attended by former presidents, government officials, Members of Parliaments (MPs), traditional rulers, representatives of foreign missions in the country, religious leaders, heads of educational institutions, civil society groups, security personnel, students
The event, Dr Duncan said, was targeted at conscientising the country’s leaders on the negative impact of the absence of peace and outlining practical ways in ensuring the existence of peace in the country and the world at large.
The 2nd Public Lecture on peace, he indicated, would be preceded by a peace march which would be supported by personnel from the Ghana Police, Ghana Army, Ghana Immigration and Fire Service, among others, through the principal streets of Accra.
“We appreciate that as human beings, we have a leadership challenge. This is manifested in happenings around us. This year’s event is to share with the public a comprehensive strategy we have developed to empower our leaders in performing their roles to promote peace. It would also state what is expected from them as leaders. It will prepare them to serve rather than be served,” Dr Duncan added.
He said if the leaders were aware of the importance of man in fulfilling God’s purpose for the world, they would have introduced policies and initiate development strategies that would inure to their subjects.
“Symposiums, workshops and fora are not enough to equip our leaders with the required strategies for them to ensure and promote peace. This lecture is to give them hands on training to keep them informed on how we can all make the world a better place,” he added.
