Air Marshal Michael Samson- Oje,Former CDS
The former Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Marshall (AM) Michael Samson-Oje has urged Ghanaians to make the Christmas celebrations a memorable one for the less privileged in their societies.
He said “we as individuals, families and institutions can make this Christmas a very memorable occasion for those who are less privileged by sharing love and blessings that are bestowed on us with them.”
The former CDS said this on Wednesday during the Ghana Navy festival of nine lessons and carols programme held at the forecourt of Navy at 50 Transit Quarters in Burma Camp.
The service had the Tema Youth Choir, Eastern Naval Command Choir, Naval Regimental Band and Edward Opare Addo of the Harmonious Choral interspersing the Bible readings with melodious Christmas carols.
According to AM Samson-Oje, the festive season brings different feelings to different people saying while some are making merry others are saddened because they might have lost loved ones during the year or do not have anyone to celebrate the occasion with.
He said individuals, families and institutions could make Christmas a very memorable occasion for the less privileged by sharing their love and blessings with them.
He also urged Ghanaians to endeavour to make the festive season more relevant by reflecting the true meaning of the season which is sacrifice.
Air Marshall Samson-Oje urged military personnel to consider their work as a sacrifice towards national development which was a true reflection of the life of Christ.
The former CDS said God showed mankind his great love by giving his son Jesus Christ to save mankind and it was well reflected in both the Bible and the Quran as one of kindness, love, forgiveness and sacrifice.
He further urged Ghanaians to use the season to learn to sacrifice for the country and reflect on their contributions towards nation building.
“Let us have all hands on deck and put our shoulders to the wheel so that we can overcome the storms that may confront our dear nation,” he advised.
In a sermon, the Director of Religious Affairs, Naval Captain Paul Adjei-Djan said the Christmas celebration was not just about the birth of Christ but also about his second coming.
He said Ghanaians should be time conscious and stop destroying the country with negative attitudes.
He called on the military to help defend and protect the territorial reserves of the country instead of aiding in its destruction.
