George Amoako
Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer, George Amoako, has bemoaned the poor reception given to the Ghanaian side by their host, Kariobangi Sharks ahead of tomorrow’s CAF Confederations Cup clash.
Ghana’s sole representative in the 2019 Africa inter-club competition, Asante Kotoko SC arrived in Kenya on Wednesday to engage the Kenyan side in the competition.
However, the Ghanaians have complained bitterly about the poor treatment handed them but have indicated that it will not affect their performance in any way.
The Porcupine Warriors are based at the City Lodge Hotel in Kenya, Nairobi, but Kotoko’s CEO, George Amoako told Kumasi radio station, Oyerepa FM that the bus provided to the club was too small and very uncomfortable to the playing body.
“We are concentrating on why we came to Kenya. There’s no panic here. The only concern has been the bus they gave us. The bus is not good enough; it’s a very small bus and we have requested for a new one through the Liaison Officer but they insist that’s all they can afford. I have told them that for better sporting relations, they should but they declined,” Amoako said.
“We are not perturbed but they should know we will also host them in Ghana and will give them the same treatment, the same kind of bus.”
Despite the bus storm, the Kotoko CEO has laughed off suggestions that the Kenyan Sharks could devour them in the same manner they disposed their opponents at the previous stage of the competition.
The Sharks dispatched Djibouti side ARTA Solar 9-1 on aggregate in the last round to make them the highest scoring side in the competition so far.
The Sharks have indicated their readiness to repeat that display against the Porcupine Warriors tomorrow, knowing that the two-legged encounter would require a comfortable win at home to cushion them for the second leg tie.
However, the Reds CEO has laughed off that suggestion, claiming that their opponents do not strike fear in his charges as they are not a top notch club in the East African country.
“Getting to Kenya, you don’t hear of Kariobangi Sharks but only Gor Mahia, I don’t see why and how this club should put fear in us. We will match them boot for boot and rather upset them in front of their followers.”
“Motivation-wise, we have no problem. The look on the faces of my players is very encouraging and hopeful. They are very hungry for honours and now that there is no football in Ghana, we hope to entertain the fans with the Confederation Cup matches.”
“This requires that we put up a good performance to edge out the Kenyans to advance in the competition. We are doing this for all soccer loving Ghanaians.”
