MTN Ghana is facilitating an insurance cover for all its Mobile Money Agents across the country to cater for the risks associated with their business.
General Manager of Mobile Money Eli Hini who disclosed this at an award programme for Mobile Money Agents of the company said the insurance cover had become necessary to mitigate the risk associated with the Mobile Money Business and financially cushion the Agents in times of disaster.
The award was on the theme “Rewarding those who contribute to Financial Inclusion.”
Some of the agents won motor bikes; flat screen televisions, mobile phones and the ultimate winner Georgina Boakye Koduah of Airtym Solutions Limited took the ultimate award and was presented with a Hyundai i10 vehicle.
Mr Hini indicated that his outfit was in discussions with some insurance companies to insure the Mobile Money Agents and urged the agents to take the policy when it was finalised.
He said the agents would bare the cost of the premium but it would be at a better rate since the company was facilitating it.
Mr Hini further said MTN Ghana was liaising with the Ghana Police to provide security or Mobile Money Agent and also develop a forensic laboratory to check mobile money fraud.
The General Manager of Mobile Money urged the Mobile Money Agents to pay attention to good customer service to attract a lot of customers, indicating that poor customer service drives away people from the service.
The General Manger of Mobile Money also cautioned the Mobile Money Agents to desist from charging unapproved fees, saying charging unapproved fees make customers lose trust in the service.
Mr Hini also encouraged the Agents to ensure the information of the customers they register for Mobile Money were correct and allow customers to do their own transaction and advised customers not to disclose their Personal Identification Number to anyone.
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh in his address said the Mobile Financial Service was “important to MTN Ghana,” stressing that the “world is moving away from paper work to digitisation.”
He said Mobile Money would be ten years next year and pledged that MTN would work closely with them to celebrate the anniversary.
Mr Adadevoh commended the Agents for their hard work for the ensuing year and urged them to do more to drive their transaction volumes up.
The Overall winner of the Momo Award, Ms Koduah said she was excited about the award and commended MTN Ghana for recognising her company’s hard work.
