Mr Aduum
The Kasena-Nankana Municipal Chief Executive, William Aduum has observed that patriotism, preparedness to sacrifice, knowledge and political persuasion should drive the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.
“Ghana can move beyond aid when she begins to add value to its primary and secondary agricultural produce and make them huge foreign exchange earners,” he stated.
Mr. Aduum, who was addressing the 34th edition of the National Farmers’ Day noted that it would take the combined mobilisation of resources, right attitude and strong political persuasion to turn the fortunes of the country around and move Ghana beyond aid
“Our nation has the comparative advantage in terms of natural resources, arable land for agriculture, mineral resources in commercial quantities, the combined mobilisation of resources with political will, certainly move Ghana beyond aid.
“For Ghana to go beyond aid there will be the need for us to add value to our agricultural produce, at least from primary to secondary, in order to bring in required foreign exchange, all of us must be patriotic, prepared to sacrifice our energies, knowledge and political persuasions to achieve the objective.
“The spirited efforts by our farmers and fishers must be lauded in ensuring food security and urged them to work continuously to help develop and grow the economy, the government aware of challenges facing agricultural sector and working closely with stakeholders to resolve them.
“The Planting for Food and Jobs policy is one of the interventions put in place to curtail challenges in the sector to whip up interest of the youth, encourage them into agriculture and assured them of assembly’s support in ensuring policies rolled out inure to the benefit of rural poor,” Mr. Aduum said.
Gideon Owiredu, Municipal Director of Agriculture, acknowledged efforts of farmers and fishers and appealed to the government to create enabling environment for their operations through its agricultural initiatives.
“Recruitment of personnel through the ‘Feed Ghana’ module under the Nation Builders Corps programme will enhance effective extension delivery to farmers and fishers and ultimately increase food security and I call on them to use the awards to enhance productivity,” he said. –atinkaonline.com
