The convict
The “Gyaasetse” (Kingmaker) of Doblo-Gono and Achiaman township in the Ga West municipality has been jailed 12 months by the Amasaman Circuit Court for double sale of land.
The convict, known in private life as Wilson Nii Lamptey Mills, 52, who pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretence, was found guilty by the court, presided by Lordina Serwaa Mireku.
He is also to pay an additional cost of GH¢15,000 to the victim as the cost of the land.
Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Chief Inspector Mary Agyapong said complainant, Samuel Anim, is a trader who resides at Tabora while the accused is a farmer and Gyasetse of Doblo Gonno and Achiaman.
She said in 2016, the complainant approached the accused person and told him he wanted a land to buy.
Chief Inspector Agyapong said the accused person sold a plot of land to the complainant at the cost of GH¢15,000.
She said the accused person took the complainant to a land at Doblo Gonno and allocated him a plot of land.
The prosecutor said the accused person gave the complainant document covering the said land, adding that the complainant graded the land, dug the foundation and placed sand and gravels on the land.
Chief Inspector Agyepong said the complainant came to the site one day and detected that his foundation and other building materials had been graded by someone who claimed the land belong to him.
She said the Gyaseste in order to change the land for the complainant took him to Kwashiekuma village and asked one Eric Nortey and Ben to allocate two plots to the complainant.
Chief Inspector Agyapong said the complainant again developed the land up to foot level. Again another person came and claimed ownership of the land.
The prosecutor said the complainant asked the accused to refund his money but to not avail, adding that the case was reported to the police, leading to his arrest. He added that the convict in his caution statement admitted to the crime.
