Road construction
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday cut the sod for the construction of a number of road projects in the Tema Metropolis in the Greater Accra Region.
The projects include drainage in the Tema Light Industrial area, Ziginshore road and adjoining links, road projects in Bankuman, Tema Newtown, Manhean Abrewankor, Farm Vivian among other projects in Community 16.
A number of roads in Community 12, totalling 9.81-km, are expected to be upgraded by M/s First Sky Limited within the next 24 months.
M/s Papset Enterprise Limited has also been contracted to construct 22-kilometres of roads in the Metropolis.
President Akufo-Addo performed the sod cutting on the first day of his three-day tour of the Greater Accra Region.
The President also inspected ongoing works on the Tema Steel Works and the Driver, Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) Pilot Concrete Roads Project in Tema and the Tema Motorway Intersection.

Other projects include the construction of a 2.1-km three lane dual carriageway with 730m underpass on the National route N1 and improvement of approximately 1.9-km two lane dual carriageway on the National Route N2 from the Ashiaman Roundabout onto the Harbour Road.
The rest are the construction of Service Road Ramps, retaining wall and box culvert, road base and pavement; construction of pedestrian bridges; and provision of adequate road safety furniture to safeguard lives and property.
The projects are expected to increase economic activities, improve access to market and the Tema Port for enhanced economic activities of industries in the catchment area of the roads, improve mobility on the Tema Steel Works and DVLA roads as well as the surrounding areas, and reduce travel times.
President Akufo-Addo also visited an Ice Plant at Nungua before ending the tour with a durbar with the chiefs and people of Nungua
