Superintendent Marian Osei-Adu Owusu, the Nsawam Municipal Police Commander, has warned drivers to refrain from using drugs, to ensure safe driving, especially as the Christmas approaches.
She also urged drivers to obey traffic regulations, avoid use of mobile phones while driving and ensure regular maintenance of vehicles, to prevent road accidents.
Supt. Owusu, who issued the warning in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after educating drivers on road safety, at Nsawam, note that intake of alcohol, speeding and wrongful overtaking by drivers, also caused road fatalities.
She gave the assurance that the police would continue to provide security, and enforce law and order in the municipality.
Nana Otieku Baah II, the Chief of Kwasi Doe, a suburb of Nsawam, and the Chairman of Anidaso Proctual Drivers Union, advised drivers to desist from working under the influence of tramadol, cocaine and other hard drugs, which could result in road accidents.
He urged drivers to cooperate with the police in their efforts to ensure sanity on the road. – GNA
