Mr. Salifu Sa-eed, Northern Regional Minister
Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS) in collaboration with Hope for Children, has donated school uniforms and teaching and learning materials to schools at Selinvoya and Loagri-Kukua in the Northern Region.
The donation, funded by DFID, was part of their effort to help improve the quality of education in the community and contribute towards the Community Action and Support for Education (CASE) project being implemented by RAINS and Hope for Children. The items include: 250 Mathematics textbooks, 200 English Language textbooks, 130 Religious and Moral Education textbooks, 60 Information, Communication and Technology textbooks, 170 Creative Arts textbooks and 180 Integrated Science textbooks.
The rest are 800 exercise books, two packs of pens, six packs of pencils, four packs of erasers and 120 school uniforms to be shared by the two schools.
Madam Munira Musah, the Project Officer for RAINS, said the donation would enhance school attendance and also to ensure effective lesson delivery in the schools.
After the donation, the two organisations used the opportunity to interact with the surrounding communities on the importance of education and the child rights protection issues.
Madam Musah said there is the need to invest in the education of one’s ward as this was more important than sending them into early marriage.
She also called on traditional leaders to halt cultural practices which are preventing children from attending to their academic needs.
