An Accra circuit court has remanded a 19-year-old unemployed, who allegedly stole electrical cables valued at GH¢62,000.00.
Abdul Rauf Saeed was charged with unlawful entry and stealing.
He has admitted entering the premise without authority, but denied going there to steal as he claimed he went there to cut grass to feed his animals.
The court presided by Mrs Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye convicted him on his own plea, but deferred sentence.
Saeed would make his next appearance on November 6.
Police Sergeant Benson Benneh told the court that Kingsley Kwabena Arthur, the prosecution witness, is a building contractor, living at Kaneshie, Accra, while Saeed had no permanent place of abode.
The court heard that Arthur was contracted by a witness in the case to put up a two-storey building for him at Lartebiokorshie, a suburb of Accra, which is almost at its completion.
Sgt Benneh said on October 1, this year, at about 8.40am, the contractor, in the company of one of his workers went to the site, only to find Saeed removing the ECG main supply metre with a pair of pliers and a hacksaw blade.
Sgt Benneh said he was apprehended and taken round the apartment, where it was discovered that all the cables used to wire the place in addition to the pipes to the tune of GH¢62,000.00 had been stolen.
He said Saeed was then handed over to the Korle Bu Police, who also visited the scene with the accused and found out that all the electrical fittings were removed, leaving the meter.
Sgt Benneh said accused admitted entering the house unlawfully, but denied stealing the cables.
Police investigations showed that there was no grass at the premise, which he claimed he went for. – GNA
