As part of activities marking the celebration of the 73rd United Nations Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration held a health walk through some principal streets of Accra last Saturday.
At 6 a.m., participants drawn from the security services, the diplomatic corps, Foreign Affairs Ministry and United Nations offices in Ghana, among others, walked from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration through the 37 Military Hospital to the Jubilee House, and then back to the Ministry amidst drumming and singing.
Participants wielded placards with inscription such as, “It’s about people,” “Zero hunger”, “Quality education”, “Peace, justice and strong institutions”, “Sustainable cities and communities”, “Life on land is about property”, “Good health and well-being”, “Clean water and sanitation”, and “Decent work and economic growth.”
The event was under the theme: “Making the United Nations relevant to all people: Global leadership and shared responsibility for peaceful, equitable and sustainable societies”.
Speaking to the media after the walk, the Director of Multilateral Relations Bureau of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Francis Kotia, said the exercise was to bring attention to the workings of the United Nations in the country.
He called on Ghanaians to support the activities of the UN, and advised them to live healthy lifestyles, particularly doing regular walking.
Mr Kotia said activities for the celebration will run until next year.
