Ambassador Iain Walker
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Iain Walker has stated that the United Kingdom (UK) is looking forward to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in delivering on its mandate to help the fight against graft in Ghana.
According to him, the UK is closely monitoring attempts by the government to fight corruption and is hopeful that the citizenry would play its part in achieving the objective.
Mr Walker indicated that “the UK is following the conversation regarding the Office of the Special Prosecutor and is hopeful that the Right to Information Bill, when passed will contribute immensely in the corruption fight.
“Fighting corruption is key in the development agenda and that is why in the UK the Right to Information Bill was passed because we believe accountability and transparency on the side of public officials are key.
“Issues of corruption are very important to us in the UK and in our relationship with Ghana and that is why we will want to see the special prosecutor, in particular, deliver now that he is in office.
“The citizenry have to play their individual roles in order to see the change they want to see in the country since she is welcoming and has goodwill, let us translate the goodwill into what she wants to be in the next 60 years and what it wants its relationship with the UK to be.
“If Ghana is welcoming, then it should be welcoming to investors and all that comes along, let’s take individual responsibilities to ensure that we get the change we all desire, all of us must play our role in achieving that together,” Mr Walker stressed. –starrfmonline.com
