AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, in collaboration with African Mining Services (AMS), on Tuesday, donated a Toyota Hilux Pick up to the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorate, to facilitate to monitoring and supervision of its activities, to improve health in the area.
Iduaprim Mine also presented six desk top computers, four printers and four external hard drives to support the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorate, to enhance access to accurate data needed for effective monitoring and evaluation.
The Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Mr Jasper Musadaidzwa, said the company would support health care delivery, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, which focused on good health and well-being a.
He it was to attain this objective that AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine partnered with AMS to enhance the capacity of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorate.
Mr Musadaidzwa said AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Gold Mine had launched an Integrated Malaria Programme, on the theme “End malaria for good in our communities”, to reduce the prevalence of malaria at the mine and its host communities by 75 percent by the year 2020.
He noted that the partnership with the Municipal Health Directorate and the Private Sector Malaria Programme of the John Hopkins Centre of Communication had yielded positive results.
Mr Musadaidzwa thanked the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Health Directorate, AMS for working with the mine to improve health.
The Operations Manager for AMS, Mr Joseph Abu Baka, said his company had supported the health sector with establishment of Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.
The Municipal Health Director of Tarkwa–Nsuaem, Mr.Emmanuel Affelkum, thanked the two mining companies for the gesture, and assured that the vehicle would be maintained to prolong its life span.
