A special service was held at the Ebenezer Methodist Cathedral in Madina on Monday to announce the Northern Accra Diocese (NAD) as the 20th Diocese within the Connexion of the Methodist Church Ghana.
The new Diocese is led by the Bishop-Elect, Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph M. Y. Edusa-Eyison with Mr. Nimo Ahinkorah as the Lay Chairman and the Very Rev. Andrew Mbeah-Baiden as Synod Secretary respectively.
The event brought together Bishops and Superintendent Ministers in the new Diocese and beyond including Very Rev Emmanuel Aryee, the Superintendent Minister for the Madina Circuit, which serves as the headquarters of the new Diocese, the Very Rev. Victor B.B. Boyetey, Synod Secretary of Accra Diocese and Mr. Joseph K. Addo, Lay Chairman of the Accra Diocese.
Delivering the sermon at the handing-over ceremony, the Diocesan Bishop of Accra, the Rt. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, tasked the leaders of the new Diocese to guide members of the Church to deepen their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and ensure that each member had a sound relationship with the Lord.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Edusa-Eyison in a speech promised that the NAD would endeavor to make evangelism its hallmark as well as a model Diocese in the country for the spreading of the word of God.
He said the building of Manses to accommodate Ministers of the gospel in the Diocese would be pursued to its logical conclusion.
The Lay Chairman, Mr. Ahinkorah in giving a brief history of NAD said the birth of the Diocese was as a result of the determination of men and women of God who worked tirelessly to see blessings of the Lord reflected in the lives of people.
He disclosed that the Diocese is currently made up of 15 Circuits carved out of the Accra Diocese and had the potential to grow more Circuits in the near future.
The Northern Accra Diocese would be formally inaugurated in December 2018.
